There are three methods of installation: nail down, glue down, and floating. The offerings are many due to the extensive varieties of domestic and exotic species. Hardwood Types
Solid vs. Engineered
A solid wood board is cut and finished from a single piece while an engineered board is made up of multiple layers designed to make the floor more stable. With a few exceptions, solid wood floors come 3/4" thick. Engineered wood floors can be between 3/8" and 3/4" thick and can be installed almost anywhere. Solid wood floors however, are limited to on or above grade installations
